EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Tribal Nations Flag Exhibit, Hall of States
More than 100 Tribal Nation flags were on display in the Hall of States, on loan from both the National Museum of the American Indian and First Peoples Fund collections. As nations within a nation, this is the first-time native flags will hang at the Kennedy Center alongside U.S. states and territories. This was a powerful statement on native sovereignty and a recognition of Indigenous peoples across America.
Indigenouse Food Sovereignty
A cooking demonstration and talk with The Sioux Chef, Sean Sherman (Oglala Lakota), featured the “true flavors of North America,” featuring ingredients of Mni Sota Makoce — Land Where the Waters Reflect the Clouds. Sherman, a James Beard Award winner, focuses his culinary work on the revitalization and awareness of Indigenous food systems in a modern culinary context.
